Review: FBI Costume by Leg Avenue
Posted by Sarahbear on February 28, 2010
Since my husband was so receptive to my most recent costume purchase, I couldn’t resist this sexy little number while it was on sale at Eden Fantasys. It didn’t come in a 1X/2X but I figured with my recent weight loss I’d be alright. I added it to my order with a few other things and crossed my fingers.
There are three pieces to the FBI Costume. A hat, a belt and the ‘romper’.
The hat: It’s basically a black baseball/trucker style hat with the letters “FBI” embroidered onto the front. There isn’t anything particularly fascinating about it. It’s actually pretty cheap looking, but it’s effective in getting the costume across. The back of the cap has velcro to help adjust it to fit the size of your head. You could easily wear your hair down or up in a pony tail through the hole, depending on your preference. I am assuming it’s made from polyester because the packaging says “100% polyester”, though there is no tag on the cap anywhere.
The belt: It’s approximately 41″ long total, but measuring from the belt holes to the buckle I would guess it would fit waist sizes ranging from 31″ – 37″ around. There are seven sets of metal belt holes, each of them about an inch apart. You might be able to squeeze into it comfortably if your waist is a little bigger, but it’s not very forgiving. I’m not sure what the belt is made of, but it smells like the costumey kind of belts you can get inexpensively at most women’s clothing stores. It’s probably some sort of synthetic leather. There is a plastic bag taped around the belt buckle with one of those little silica packets inside. I’m assuming that’s to keep the metal from tarnishing.
The ‘romper’: Ugh. I hate that word. Rompers are what babies wear around the house and I am so -over- the baby days. The tag says it’s 100% polyester. The majority of this part of the outfit seems to poorly mimic microfiber. It’s comfortable, it’s just not quite as soft and comfortable as microfiber. It’s fairly stretchy and form fitting. It’s suppose to fit a lot like those one-piece short outfits you saw all over skating rink movies from the 70′s. Long sleeved, shorts where your butt peeks out of the bottom, plunging v-neck. It’s accented with this strange, shiny material and silver plastic buttons. The collar, cuffs of the sleeves and several pockets around the outfit are made of this material. On the back the letters “FBI” are sewn on, letterman jacket style, though a very cheap imitation of it.
It’s cute and it serves it’s purpose, but the material just leaves a little to be desired.
So far as the fit goes it runs a little on the small side.
Measurements(when laid flat):
Bust: 21″ (26″ stretched and 42/52″ around)
Waist: 17″ (21″ stretched and 34/42″ around)
Hips: 22″ (27″ stretched and 44/54″ around)
Shoulder to thigh length: 28″
Zipper to crotch length: 20″
I tried it on and it fit comfortably, but unfortunately it was too short from the crotch to the chest. Instead of giving a sexy peek at my cleavage, it plunged awkwardly to the middle of my torso. It was very unflattering and would probably look that way on most women with a longer torso.
According to the tag and the packaging you should hand wash the outfit separately and allow it to drip dry. While the seaming looks sturdy enough, the material will probably shrink and lose it’s shape if you used your washer and dryer on it.
Overall, I wasn’t very impressed with the costume on the whole or the sizing. Had it not been on sale I’d have been a little upset at paying so much for it. Even on sale it was a bit pricey for the quality of the product. Eden Fantasys does have some better quality, sexier and more reasonably priced costumes for sale though. Why don’t you go and check them out?
