Remember how I had started working out back at the beginning of the year, lost a decent amount of weight and then got that horrendous 5-week-long period? Then I threw myself a pity party. Rockin made some good points and I took them into consideration. The next day I started exercising and watching what I ate. I’ve cut back to about 1400-1600 calories a day and am trying to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise. I purchased the Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism Cookbook, which has a lot of the recipes from her online program in it and more. This is kind of awesome because I loved those recipes. It keeps things varied so I don’t get bored with the food.
For exercise I’ve been riding the recumbent bike, doing exercise DVD’s and Shimmy from FitTV. One of the DVD’s is Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, which has 3 levels of 20 minute workouts split into strength, cardio and ab work. It’s motivating. After only 2 times of doing them I have noticed an improvement in my ability to do the exercises and my endurance.
I purchased some Cacique sports bras from Lane Bryant. It has made a huge difference. They were expensive, but when you’ve got boobs this big they need support. It’s easier to focus on working out when your breasts are not in pain. I picked up some clearance work out clothes from Old Navy too. I love their t-shirts because they can double as casual clothing and they’re great for working out. I like having fitted clothing to work out in because it feels better than loose clothing that bunches.
So far, I’ve lost about 4 lbs. A lot for week 1, but when you’ve got a lot to lose it comes off easier. I’m very, very pleased with my results. It feels good to have sore muscles. My energy has increased again and I already feel lighter. I joined myfitnesspal.com and it has helped a lot. It’s a free community with facebook/myspace style profiles where you can track your weight, calorie intake, exercise logs and all sorts of other stuff.
Happy Monday!

I don’t know if you already do this, but when I worked in lingerie I learned a lot about bras. -Never- put them in the dryer. Nothing wears out the elastic faster. If you can, hand wash them, if not, gentle cycle by themselves and always hang them over a rod or something to dry.
Also, you can buy sleep bras. They’re softer and they don’t have wires. I don’t buy many bras with wires anyhow because they’re uncomfortable to me. But you can buy bras like the one I linked and sleep in it. It’s really, really supportive and it’s comfortable. And, if you haven’t already, get yourself measured professionally. It’s free at department stores(like Belk), even if you don’t buy a bra. You should get remeasured every year or if you have major changes in your body, weight loss, pregnancy etc.

I am new to following your site, so I am sorry to hear about your weight. My wife is a fitness professional and when I am not doing my day job I help her. We have been doing this for some time. Someone commented on your “Jealousy” post that balance is important. It is very important. I feel that your 5 week period was due to an imbalance. The added weight is causing havoc on your hormones and it lashed out as a super long period. I am sorry you had to go through that.
Your new motivation to start losing again is wonderful. The best advice I give to anyone is to try not to take it all off in a few weeks. We all want results and we all want them yesterday. Please look at this as a new life style and not a diet. Weight did not come on over night. Take your time to develop good living habits. Make small incremental changes over a long period of time. That will help make it feel less like a diet and give you the time to find what works for you. For instance, don’t cut out all of the foods you love just because you know they are all bad for you. You cut them all out at once you set yourself up for failure. Pick a couple of items and cut them. Then reduce the intake of the others. for example, if you love ice cream and potato chips and eat them everyday, eat a smaller portion of ice cream once a week and reduce the intake of the chips. You still eat them everyday but you only have a few chips. It helps with the cravings. When you feel comfortable with that, then cut some more. Your cravings will get less and less.
As a mom of 4 (If I read that right)you are more active then you think. But the advice to be more active is good advice. 30 minutes a day is great. Never do it on an empty stomach. In other words, don’t starve yourself before exercise. The body will not use fat stores for energy since they are for emergency. It will go for Muscle tissue, Connective tissue and Internal organs for energy before it uses fat stores. The body will literally eat itself and wait to use the fat stores.
The last little bit of advice is to stay away from extremes. Everything in moderation is ok. A soda once a month as a treat will not hurt you, but 3-6 a day will eventually kill you. Remember moderation.
Keep your head up! It is not a race, but a journey that needs to be experienced and learned from.
Good Luck! I know you can do it! You will be happier that you did it for yourself!

Thank you, Dominick, for the wonderful advice. I appreciate it greatly. I’ve started this journey quite a few times and I believe that it takes a certain level of maturity to be successful with it. A maturity level that I really didn’t have before that brings patience, understanding and persistence. =)
