It was nine years ago today that I said the most important and powerful words in the whole of my short life.
“I do.”
Two words bound me to you and forever changed our lives. They answered a question, made a declaration to the whole world. They seem far too vague, too frail and answer.
“I do.”
I promise to be your best friend. To encourage you, support you, and help you grow. To listen to all your problems and do my best to set them right. To never judge you or condemn you, but love and accept you for everything you are.
“I do.”
I promise to be your lover. To give you every ounce of passion and fire I possess. To make you feel like the only woman I see, even in a crowded room. To sate your every appetite and desire. To love your beautiful body, even when you don’t.
“I do.”
I promise to be your husband. To give you every pillow on the bed. To go to town at midnight because you want ice cream. To rub your back at night as we drift off to sleep. To indulge, appreciate, and adore only you.
“I do.”
I promise to be yours. To give you love, honesty, and trust. To talk about things that are important, even if they hurt. To always listen to you with a clear and open mind. To hold your hand as we live this life, knowing I am made better by you.
“I do.”
We had a simple ceremony. We married young. At the time, neither of us understood the true depth of what loving another person could mean. I’m sure in another ten years, we will look back and say the same thing about this day as well.
We did not write our own wedding vows. I don’t think they would have been as sincere then, being barely more than kids. It’s amazing the difference such a short time can make.
These are my vows to you. This is my answer.

This? This is freakin’ adorable. Where’d you get a copy of your husband, and I want one.

As long as you find a copy, you’re welcome to it. I get to keep the original all to myself.
He’s amazing. <3
