I just spent about 2 hours, maybe 3, writing a blog. It was sparked by a new bill that was introduced by Rep. Barry Loudermilk which would restrict abortions in Georgia from being performed after the 20th week of pregnancy. Well, that’s what it initially said. Then he added in some more stuff at the last minute, because that’s what sneaky underhanded Republicans running for Senate do in this state. He wants to require abortions to be performed hospitals licensed to do them (not clinics, where they’re typically performed.) He claims this would make them safer because the women receiving abortions because if something went wrong, they’re in the place they want to be for an emergency. Really, what he wants is to make it so abortions are perfectly legal in the state of Georgia, there just won’t be anywhere you can actually get one. There’s a lot of red tape around hospital funding and abortions. Rep. Loudermilk wants to sue doctors for wrongful death if they don’t follow state-stipulations (like notifying the parents of a minor and forcing women to look at ultrasounds of their unborn baby.)

I emailed Rep. Loudermilk last night. It was a very poised letter that addressed my concerns with the bill. The more I sat on it, the more pissed off I got. I’ve got a 1200 word draft sitting in my WordPress dashboard that seems to have gone all over the place about shit I’m beyond pissed off with politically. I just do not understand how in less than 6 months since Republicans took of the majority in the House and gained a lot of seats in the Senate, we have gone from focusing on fixing the real problems in this country to trying to strip women of their rights and dignity.

Gay people and abortion seem to be the only thing Republicans are concerned about. If we get those gays to stop trying to live normal lives and force women to have babies they don’t want, all the problems in this country will undoubtedly be solved. I really try not to be partisan, but this bullshit is making me lose my mind.
