It’s Broken, Again

It’s about time for my yearly GYN visit. I’m going to drop the doctor I went to last year and return to my old OB/GYN. Both doctors had the same theories about my period issues, so I don’t see why I need to drive an extra 40 minutes to the new guy.
Period issues, I say? Yes. They’re back. But not so awful just yet.
If you don’t recall, I had to visit this new OB/GYN because I was referred to them after visiting a GP, who felt they would be more equipped to figure out what the heck was going on. I had been going several months without a period (3-4) and then having 4-5 week long periods. It was awful. My iron was low. I felt like crap. Apparently nothing was wrong though. No out of whack hormones. No abnormal sonograms. They couldn’t find any reason behind the wonky cycle. I was put on the 10-day pill to kick start a period and make me get rid of anything I still had in my uterus, and then prescribed a birth control. I loved the original they put me on (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo), but it was nearly $70 a month and not covered on our insurance. In fact, we have to pay out of pocket for all of our meds. After a game of phone tag between the pharmacy and the OB/GYN, we figured out which cheaper alternative I could take. It was okay for a few months, then it sucked. Bad. It regulated my period, but my moods and sex drive were awful.
I stopped taking it and continued having a regular cycle until last month, when I skipped a period and now seem to be having a longer period than usual. Sigh. I know I’m going to wind up being put back on the 1o day pill and another birth control, but hopefully the experience with other forms of hormones will help narrow down a better option for me.
