It’s been a while since I reviewed any lingerie. It’s not for lack of want to, it’s just that I’m running out of options in my size. Recently Coquette’s Lace and Mesh Babydoll with G-string became available on EdenFantasys. It came in a 1X/2X, so I ordered myself one. It’s flattering, but I have a few issues with the set. I’ll get to those later.

Babydolls and chemises are one the most flattering styles of lingerie. They tend to camouflage the tummy while accentuating the curves by gently grazing them with soft, silky material. Similar to gowns, but much shorter. This particular babydoll is no different. The skirt on the bottom is amazing. It has two layers of a black, semi-sheer material. The top layer is about two inches shorter than the bottom. Each layer is accented with hot pink stitching along the hem. It hangs very sexily against the body, even over the bits that most women are self conscious about.

The bust is a little disappointing. While it’s gorgeous, as far as design goes, it’s still lacking in the support and comfort department. There’s a band of hot pink, lace stretched across the front, just under the bust and each cup is half covered with this same lace, just slightly ruched. Outlining the top of the pink lace on each cup is a strip of black lace with a hot pink, satin ribbon woven through and a thick, hot pink bow in the center. It would seem that Coquette has a fondness for bows recently.

So, my issues? Well, the construction and design is just off. It’s kind of like a halter styled bra, only a very not a supportive one. There is a bra strap across the back with three sets of hooks, but the material is so stretchy that it doesn’t do anything for the breasts. Especially those with larger breasts, which this particular piece is suppose to fit. The cups are huge. I wear a 42 DD or a 40DDD, depending on the brand, and there is still room for another cup size worth of boob when I wear this thing. I think they tried to fudge on the cups by making it a halter style babydoll instead of giving it actual straps, but that actually makes it a whole lot worse. Anyone with large breasts knows how heavy they are and all a halter top does is put the weight of two, gigantic boulders on your neck muscles. It’s painful and it’s very hard to think about sex when you’ve got material digging into your neck as the weight of your breasts pull down on it.

They put so much detail into the piece and it still looks flattering, but I’m just disappointed. They could have reinforced the back strap a bit, specifically the larger sizes, considering bras over a C cup start having more than two hooks. Most of the support for your breasts is suppose to be in the band, and if they would have added hooks accordingly (three hooks for the XL, four for the 1X/2X) as well as put in some less stretchy material on the band, the weight of your breasts would be better supported and spread out, rather than straining your neck.

The babydoll comes with a matching g-string. It’s pretty, but it’s like all other sets. The bottom probably isn’t going to fit you. I was able to wear it, and I do think I prefer g-strings to thongs, as far as comfort goes. I’ve got a mom pooch though, and I never knew if the front panel should go over it or sit under it. Either way, it doesn’t quite look right to me. My husband thinks it’s great, so I guess that’s all that matters. The panties are a black, stretchy material with the same hot pink, lace, overlaid on the front panel. There are two ‘strings’ that go around each hip. Pretty, but not sturdy. Some of the threads snapped the first time I pulled the panties on and immediately started coming undone around the hips. No one would notice just by looking at you wearing it, but it’s there and it’s only a matter of time until they become unusable.

The measurements are:
Bust – 22″ laid flat (44″ around). Doesn’t stretch on the front.
Underbust: 20″ laid flat (40″ around), 24″ stretched (48″ around)
Length: 21″
The hip measurements are irrelevant, though I have 52″ hips and you can see how it fits in the side view picture. The set is made of 82% nylon and 18% spandex. The skirt feels like a high quality microfiber. The top feels like bathing suit material and the cups are padded like a bathing suit top. You’ll want to hand was it, as with all lingerie, and let it air dry. Using a washer or dryer will damage the material.
Visually, the set is gorgeous and will flatter the majority of body types. Structurally, parts of it are lacking that cause a lot of discomfort, particularly for women with large breasts. You can pick it up at EdenFantasys for a very reasonable price. They’ve got a large selection of lingerie to browse if it’s not quite what you’re looking for, and and even bigger selection of sex toys. Why don’t you go check it out?
